August closed out the summer the way it usually does around here: full patios, packed rooftop bars, and bar bands playing through the last of the heat. Halls Chophouse Nexton in Summerville quietly became one of the busiest rooms in the market this month, while Uptown Social kept doing what it does best: turning a Tuesday into a reason to stay out late. Top Acoustic Artists Kevin Church topped the acoustic leaderboard with 9 gigs split between Tommy Condon's Irish Pub and The Dinghy. That two-venue split says something. Church isn't a one-room regular leaning on a single crowd. He's building two separate followings in two different rooms, one an Irish pub built on sing-alongs, the other a waterfront hang built on sunset sets. Splitting time evenly across both and still leading the pack in gig count is the kind of consistency that gets a name remembered on both sides of town. JJZ trio matched Church's 9 gigs but did it all in one place, anchoring Halls Chophouse Nexton like it's their room. Of The Heart put up 8 gigs across High Cotton and Slightly North of Broad, two of the more polished dinner rooms downtown. Medium Rare also hit 8 at Halls Nexton, proof that Summerville's steakhouse stage has become one of the most reliable bookings in the market. Kyle Herring rounded out the top five with 7 gigs, all at Tommy Condon's, holding down that pub crowd almost solo. Top Bands Grayson Little led all bands with 9 gigs, moving between Uptown Social and Frontier Lounge. That range matters. Uptown Social is a big room that fills up fast on weekends, and Frontier Lounge asks for a different kind of set. Pulling strong numbers at both means Little's live show translates across rooms with different crowds and different expectations, which is a harder trick than it sounds. Nexton Jazz Quartet tied Little at 9 gigs, all at Halls Chophouse Nexton, making them the house band in everything but title. The Midnight City Band logged 6 gigs at Uptown Social, a steady presence in a room that doesn't hand out steady easily. FlashMob split 4 gigs between Uptown Social and Frontier Lounge, and The Almost Every Wednesday Band put up 4 at The Dinghy, a name that's basically a promise at this point. Top DJs JMBX ran away with the DJ category, logging 21 gigs, all at Uptown Social. That's close to a set every other night for the entire month, in the same room, which tells you Uptown Social has built its late-night identity around him. When a resident owns a calendar that completely, the room and the DJ start to feel like the same thing. Dj Boogi logged 14 gigs across Uptown Social and Share House, working two different late-night crowds in the same month. Hi Ed put up 11, also at Uptown Social, further cementing that room as the market's DJ hub. Milli Marco spread 9 gigs across three rooms, including the rooftop at Ritual Rooftop, the widest reach of anyone in the category. TWÏNZ also hit 9, splitting time between Uptown Social and Ritual Rooftop. That's the August board. A lot of names, a handful of rooms carrying serious weight, and plenty of gigs happening every week across this market. Not seeing all your shows?
